The appeal of racing monster trucks, those fuel-burning behemoths that jump dirt piles and crush lesser cars with their enormous tires, goes far beyond the boundaries of regular motorsports fans to a much broader audience, and why not? Spectators at such events get to view vehicular mayhem at a level you just can’t find anywhere else, and for those looking to get the full experience, the event to watch for is the annual Monster Jam racing series.
Monster Jam, the world-famous racing competition for monster trucks, will return to the DC area on January 24th and 25th, and when it does, the team behind the legendary Grave Digger truck will be looking to win their third straight championship title. If Grave Digger driver, Adam Anderson, can accomplish that feat, he’ll tie the record for consecutive wins with rival Tom Meentz, driver of the Max-D monster truck, who completed the three-peat back in 2000-2002. This rivalry will be intensifying the competition this year, as every driver now has the Grave Digger team lined up in their cross hairs.
Anderson says of the pressures facing him this season:
“When you throw all these stats out there all it does is put a bull’s eye on my back. These other guys, it gives them something more to fight for. Then I have to fight back so it doesn’t make it any easier by any means to be able to accomplish what I’ve done already let alone what is yet to come.”
Monster Jam presents affordable, family-friendly events with seats starting at $25 for adults and $10 kids (ages 2-12) plus any service charges. Pit Party passes for Saturday and Sunday are also available to purchase, which allows you to get up close to the trucks before the event. Tickets may be purchased at the Verizon Center box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000.
