Washington DC is playing host to one of the coolest winter events. The NHL and the Washington Capitals are hosting the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Nationals Park. This much anticipated outdoor match-up between the Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks on New Year’s Day will be a first in the city.
Ted Leonsis, the owner of the Capitals, has been working the last several seasons to secure the Winter Classic and the NHL finally granted his wish last season. So in just a few days after a night out on the town, locals and visitors in the DC area will get to experience hockey in an outdoor arena like no other with over 41,000 other fans.
The District’s state-of-the-art baseball stadium has been turned into a winter wonderland with a hockey rink constructed right on the baseball field. The game will take place at 1PM at Nationals Park in SE DC. Best to take the metro via the Greenline to Waterfront or Navy Yard to join the festivities. Tickets to the game itself are hard to come by, but you can still be part of the action with tons of activities leading up to the big game.
So prepare your winter jackets and caps, ROCK YOUR RED, and come have a blast at the Winter Classic! GO CAPS.
